Earlier this year every major supermarket in the UK agreed to eliminate all unnecessary single-use plastics by 2025, under the newly introduced "UK Plastics Pact". The agreement was put together by the Government-backed waste charity called Wrap, the main aim is to tackle the plague of plastic waste which is having a devastating effect on the environment and if the issue is ignored, figures show that the UK’s plastic waste will rocket over a million tonnes by 2030.*
So, the terms have been agreed and they mean that single-use plastics will only be allowed if they are deemed absolutely necessary and are made from recyclable materials. Non-recyclable plastics including 5p carrier bags, squeezy ketchup bottles, snap pots of yoghurt and multi-bags of fruit and veg, could all be banned if they are not made recyclable.
The success of this movement will rely mainly on consumers of the plastic packaged goods to increase the amount in which they recycle them at home, however Wrap have also made a deal with Recycling units across the UK to start recycling a wider variety of plastics instead of sending them to the landfill, as they have been currently. This campaign is set to be launched later this year.
Here at NBB Recycled Furniture we manufacture an extensive range of 100% Recycled Plastic Furniture, which is derived from plastic bottles that were previously destined for the landfill, so if you are looking to purchase some outdoor furniture this Summer, then why not choose recycled?
Not only does our furniture benefit and help save the environment, but it will also never rot, crack or splinter and is resistant to insects. It is also completely maintenance free, which means the most you will have to do is simply wipe it down if need be. Plus, on top of all that, it lasts up to 5 times longer than the timber alternatives! Unlike timber recycled plastic material does not degrade when left outside in wet conditions, furthermore it is UV resistant meaning that the colour will not fade in sunlight!
